Teaching Noel

New postby Noel Tempo » Thu Feb 17, 2011 4:56 pm

Noel sat on her bed with a book open on her lap. Wand making had been a lot more involved then she had ever dreamed. Of course very little that she had learned in school got her ready for this so Noel had to study a lot. Demon said that it would soon come naturally to her but Noel thought he just might be blowing smoke. Still she studied hard because she wanted Demon proud of her.

They lived together now…her and Demon…separate bedrooms of course. Noel had quickly learned what a babe in the wood Demon was. He was about as innocent as they came which made Noel protective of him. Then there was Demon’s twin brother. That guy was trouble and about as smarmy as they came. They had disliked each other from the word go and he seemed to want Noel out of the shop and Demons life.

“Fat chance of that…”

She muttered turning the page in her book. Noel was learning about wands made from gem stones. Rare and hard to craft she of course wanted to make one. So far she had blown several crystals to bits trying. This meant more studying…she had to be doing something wrong.

There was a clap of thunder outside and the familiar pitter-patter of rain against the window panes. Rain usually got Demon a little antsy but she’d never been round him for a thunder storm yet. Quickly he had left his room and came downstairs knocking on her door.

“Noel…”

He knocked again nervously.

“Noel?”

Like a kid or a skittish animal he was strartled by the storm and did not like to be alone for them. Always before, when his fatehr was still alive, father would keep Demon company until the storm had passed. Evidently now Noel was going to get stuck with the responsibility. Though he wouldn’t have bothered her had he not heard her talking in her room when he came. Last thing he wanted to do was become an annoyance to her.

Noel looked up at the first set of knocks and her name then raised an eyebrow at the second set. Man Demon must really need her for something. Getting out of her bead she opened the door with a slight smile.

“You need something Demon?”

She asked her smiling falling a little seeing the state Demon was in.

The lightning outside flashed and the thunder cracked and he jumped with a small sound of fright. Then tried his very best to recover and not look like a scared child.

"May... may I stay with you? Just... just until the storm is over? Sorry, always before, father was there."

Since he was a little boy he could remember being scared of storms but his father was always there to tuck him in and stay by his bedside until the storm had passed. Until he became ill then Demon would tuck in his father and stay close to him until the storm had passed. If she was awake and he didn't have to be alone, he had no intention to be.

Noel couldn’t help but smile at Demon’s very childish reaction to the thunder and lightening. It was cute and made her want to cuddle on the poor guy.

“Sure. Come on in.”

Noel opened the door to let Demon into the room. She had very much made it her own with posters of wizarding rock bands on the wall along with brightly colored fabrics. The floor had a thick rug that changed colors when you walked on it. There were several glowing orbs hanging from the ceiling that gave light and would dim when told to do so. Noel sat on her bed motioning for Demon to sit in the chair she had managed to squeeze into the space.

“Not a big fan of storms then? I love them…sleep like a baby when it’s raining.”

She seemed like she wanted to say more but bit her tongue. Noel disliked Demon’s brother and was going to voice a concern but it really wasn’t any of her business.

“Me and my dad use to sit in our bay window and watch the storms roll in. Well we did till he remarried that is…”

Clearly Noel was still bitter at her step mother but the old witch was out of her life. Noel was 18 now and took her part of the money her father left her and ran.

“That’s a picture of us there.”

She pointed to a wizarding picture of a little girl and a tall man. They looked happy…Noel missed those times.

Having never been farther than the door frame when it came to her room he couldn’t help but look around at the posters and bright colors. A crack of thunder had him jumping a bit but he settled again and returned to looking around.

“No… I like rain and snow storms just not thunder storms.”

He glanced to her bed when she mentioned sleeping like a babe and he smiled a bit at the thought of her all curled up and asleep content to the sound of rain. Then he glanced back down at his feet as he settled in the chair offered.

“You miss him… your father…”

This was not a question but an observation. She had seemed so content in her mention of her father and the way things used to be. Then she mentioned the remarriage and it was as if all the sweet flavor of her life was made bitter by the introduction of the second wife.

“He looks like he was a good man.”

What else could he say? She looked so happy there when it was just her and her father. Demon could only imagine what it would have been like if his father remarried but father’s heart beat for no one but mother. He never stopped mourning her and the mediwitch said that sadness was what weakened his heart.
