Night Out

Heather had a lovely summer with Oliver. They had been to his farm which so reminded her of where she grew up. He was such a kind sweet man to do that for her that Heather wanted to do something for him. So dressed in a rather lovely dress and the best flats she had Heather marched right to the Library a bright smile on her face. She went up to the desk and patiently waited for Oliver.

The Librarian came from the restricted section after making one of his usual rounds there to ensure the students weren’t skulking about and getting into magic they were not yet prepared for. Spotting Heather at the counter he came over and joined her. It would seem they were of a like mind. After all, he had planned to go see her after he finished things here. Seeing her in that dress reminded him of something and he went round behind the counter instead of directly to her.

“I was going to give this to you later today…”

He brought up a beautiful hydrangea, full in bloom with rich full bundles of flowers that matched her dress. This thought brought a smile to him as he set the potted plant on the counter and gently slid it toward her.

“Grew it from seeds for you, how I managed to keep it secret from you all summer I will never know. There were a few times you almost went right where it had been hiding.”

True, it would have been easier and more immediate to just buy an already grown and blooming plant for her but that would not be as intimate a gift to him.
