Winter Is Here {Ended}

[Hannah Reign]

Hannah once again found herself at a muggle park. The ground was covered with a soft coat of white and the air smelled of pine needles and winter's approach. Pulling her jacket closer around her, Hannah watched a few children running around their parents close at hand. She couldn't help but smile as two of the children started a snowball fight managing to pull their father into it. It had been years since she had done any of that with her father, but hopefully that could change this year.

A soft whining drew Hannah's attention away from the kids and toward Ice Monster who was looking up at her master with pleading eyes. She wanted to walk not stand in the cold. Shaking her head, Hannah gave Monster a looser leash so the wolf dog could explore. She blew on her fingers to warm them up and wished that she had brought gloves. She walked over to a bench and wiped it off before sitting. Lifting her eyes upward, she watched as the snow began to fall again.

"Every time I come here, there you are... Are you always at the park or do you just have this cosmic way of knowing to be here when I come here?"

Peter teased as he came up along side Hannah watching his breath forming clouds on the air that melted away as easily as they came. When he was little he used to pretend he was a dragon and his breath clouds were fire. That was a long time ago though. It was fun to watch the muggle children at play. He wondered how many of them would wind up witches or wizards in the end.

"Wow, finally someone figured out my super power. Bummer now I have to kill you."

A smirk flashed across Hannah's face when she heard Peter's voice. She turned to face him, the smirk disappearing and a genuine smile replacing it. Peter was really the only person, besides Evie, who Hannah enjoyed seeing from school. Hannah moved over on the bench to make some room for Peter if he would like to sit.

"What brings you out here? Tired of flying?"

"Well hey if we are talking about killing, I wouldn't mind to die in a Shakespearean sense."

Peter winked when he said that. Ok maybe he was being a little forward today. Then again he might have flirted more like this if she hadn't had a kid with her last time they met up. But if she knew her Shakespeare, then she'd know that dying was sometimes used as a euphemism for having an orgasm.

"Sometimes the Muggle side is the only place I can get any peace. At least the Muggles could care less about our sports or any of that."

He sank down on the bench beside Hannah and watched her dog fret at wanting to walk or run around.

"Little cold for your friend there."

A blush touched Hannah's cheeks but it was less noticeable due to the fact that they were already red from the cold. Honestly she didn't mind the freezing air and it was at times like this that she was grateful for it.

"Peace. How I wish I could get that by coming out here."

Sighing Hannah leaned back on the bench. This was peaceful enough for her, just being able to enjoy a walk in the park was something that was becoming a rare event. Hannah looked over at Monster and rolled her eyes at the white dog.

"She's fine, she's just being a baby. Monster has been in colder places before."

The dog looked at her as if she could actually understand her. Turning her back to her master, Monster went over to roll in the ice. When she was done her white coat was drenched.

"You see what I have to deal with?"

Hannah shook her head and laughed at her dog's antics.

"Come now... you're life can't be all that hectic. Even with a monster like this to deal with..."

Peter leaned back on the bench as well and watched Monster roll around on the icy walk. Dogs were funny creatures, they never really seemed to grow out of the puppy stage, at least the good ones never did.

"So how did you come by a white German Shepard? Is she mixed with something?"

He could have given a lesser damn about the dog. It was just something to talk about rather than sitting there in silence. A snowflake landed on her nose which made Peter laugh a little before he leaned in and gently brushed the melting flake away.

Hannah laughed a little bit at what Peter said and shook her head. That wast true, her life wasn't that bad compared to others but still. Juggling her boss, work, her parents, siblings, and Raja was hard.

"No. It's not too bad, just tiring."

She looked at Monster when Peter asked about the dog and nodded. Right now no one would ever have guessed that she was part wolf. The other sign was her tail. It had the feathered look of a wolf.

"White wolf. She was suppose to be homework, but I got attached to her and she to me."

Hannah didn't know if Peter knew what she did for a job, but that didn't matter unless he asked about it. If he did it would help fill in the blanks, but either way the question had been answered. She couldn't fight the smile that played on her lips as she watched the snowflake land on his nose.

"How are things with Kat?"

"I hear dogs that are part wolf are a hand full... Of course any dog can be a hand full."

Peter sighed when she asked about Kat. He rubbed the back of his neck and tried to think of a way to even breach that subject. How does one say they let go of the one they loved for years, if only to protect them. Kat hadn't understood what he was doing and that was a good thing. He certainly did not expect Hannah to understand. So he went with the next best answer.

"We grew apart... it was bound to happen... she was at school. I have been out there in the real world dealing with a whole different set of demands and concerns. I hope she finds someone though, someone who will make her happy. She deserves that you know..."

The words could not have been more genuine, he really wanted Kat to have as much of a happy life as she could without him. Right now it was the end of the world to her but he figured they just needed to give it some time. He'd move on, she'd move on, and that was life.

"What about you? Bet you can't stay single for long... have to fight the guys off with a stick."

He flirted as though he were one of those guys.

"Monster is more than a handful, most of the time I wonder if she's worth the trouble. But where would I be without my travel companion."

Monster was the only real piece of home that Hannah brought with her when she worked. Monster went from country to country with Hannah and without the dog, she knew that her life would be much to boring. The wolf dog was what made Hannah get up in the morning, literally and figuratively.

Hannah looked at Peter when he started to talk about Kat. She didn't apologise for the brake up. She knew that when her and Luke split up she didn't particularly like hearing the words "That's terrible" or "Oh you poor girl".

"You both deserve it. To find someone."

She meant what she said. Even at school Peter seemed to be concerned with making sure everyone else was OK before himself. And at times it worked out that he never thought about himself. Though a smile grew on Hannah's face she tried to hide it. Her mind shot back to Raja and her cheeks flushed pink again.

"That's right, I always keep the stick in my purse. I'm not single though thank you very much. I'm seeing someone, though I should probably owl him...."

The first part was directed to Peter and she stuck her tongue out at him playfully. But the part about owling him was more directed to herself so that she would make a mental note.

"Yea, you might want to make some plans for the holidays. The weather does not seem to agree with staying out much longer. Keep in touch Hannah, always a pleasure to have these talks."

He kissed her cheek in place of a wave or anything as it started to snow pretty heavily now. Having gotten up then he held out his hand to help her up. Then the two could be off their separate ways. Peter had enjoyed the visit but something she said had reminded him of things he needed to get done, that and the weather really was preventing the visit from remaining comfortable.
