Rules

They must be read and signed before anyone can submit a character
  • 1.1 New Rule
    Being “new” is not an excuse to break the rules. That said the registration password is located in the New User Guide.
  • 1.2 New Member Forums Rule
    Abuse of the approved forums for new members will result in an instant ban by IP address.
  • 1.3 Character Name Rule
    Register with the name of your character, not a web handle.
  • 1.4 E-Mail Rule
    Use the same e-mail address for all characters you register here.
  • 1.5 Unique Name Rule
    Characters with similar names to those in use will not be approved.
  • 1.6 Original Character Rule
    Cannon characters (or similar) from any genre will not be approved.
  • 1.7 Grounded IP Rule
    Accounts registered from known IPHider or SPAM IP addresses will not be approved.
  • 1.8 Unique IP Rule
    When an IP is banned all members using that IP are considered banned even in situations where a computer or IP is shared.
  • 2.1 Character Sheet Rule
    All characters must use the character sheet for this site. All other submissions will be deleted. The WWW link in a character's site profile MUST link to their character sheet.
  • 2.2 Provided Traits Rule
    All character submissions MUST use the traits provided by the site.
  • 2.3 Appearance/Style Rule
    All characters must have at least “age appropriate” paragraph describing their character’s physical appearance and/or dressing style.
  • 2.4 Abilities Rule
    2.4 No new members should apply for any character with any sort of special ability akin to those provided by the site. Any such submission will be deleted without consideration for approval.
  • 2.5 History Rule
    NO student character submitted with a horrific or overly dramatic history will be approved.
  • 2.6 Secret History Rule
    No changes in a character’s approved history are allowed without permission from the site admin.
  • 2.7 Profile Change Rule
    All members are encouraged to update their character’s profile as the character is played, provided there is sufficient role play to justify the change.
  • 2.8 Cannon Lineage Rule
    No characters are allowed to be related to characters from any Harry Potter source unless approved by the site admin before the character is submitted for approval.
  • 2.9 Cannon Item Rule
    No character may own or have previously owned any major item (i.e. Time Turners, The Marauders Map, or have lived in Grimmauld Place) without prior approval from the site admin.
  • 2.10 Maximum Character Capacity (MCC) Rule
    You may apply for ONLY 3 new characters per site year. If at any point the characters created cease to be considered active then a member will not be approved for any new characters until they are considered active again.
  • 3.1 New Character Year Rule
    New members are welcome to apply for students between first and third year while established members of the site may apply for students of any year. Students above 1st year with profile errors may not be approved.
  • 3.2 Student Parent/Guardian Rule
    All students must be living with parents or guardians or they will not be approved or may be suspended if their living arrangements change without prior approval by the site admin.
  • 3.3 Student Summer Rule
    No student is allowed to live at Hogwarts over the site summer.
  • 3.4 Student Year Appropriate Spell Rule
    Students must ONLY use the spells appropriate for their year. First years whom have not yet been sorted are not allowed to use any spells except “Lumos” before the school year begins.
  • 3.5 Student Course Requirement Rule
    All students MUST attend all courses that apply to their year until sixth year. first and second years must attend courses marked (1-7) and third through fifth must attend those as well as the courses marked (3-7). Sixth and Seventh years must only attend the courses for which they passed OWLs unless approved by the Professor of a failed subject.
  • 3.6 Student Participation Rule
    Students who fail to participate or obtain a failing final grade in three or more of the required courses may be placed on academic probation or held back a year.
  • 3.7 Student Appropriate Behavior Rule
    Students must behave as appropriately as would be expected by any private school. Hogwarts reserves the right to expel any student at any time for certain levels of misbehavior.
  • 3.8 Student Party Rule
    Any and all parties must be approved through site admin or the Head of House for the character hosting the party before they can be played, except those parties thrown by Prefects and/or Head Girl or Boy.
  • 3.9 Students at Hogwarts Rule
    With the exception of Hogsmeade Weekend and the Winter Holidays, students may ONLY post in the Hogwarts forums and not out in the rest of the world during the school year.
  • 3.10 Student Romance Rule
    All romantic scenes among students must be year appropriate regardless of a character’s age.
  • 3.11 OWL Requirement Rule
    Fifth year students must take OWLs in all subjects and must pass a minimum of three to advance to sixth year.
  • 3.12 NEWT Requirement Rule
    Seventh year students must take NEWTs in the subjects they have taken during seventh year and must pass a minimum of three to graduate.
  • 3.13 Best Hogwarts Subject Rule
    Best Hogwarts Subject positively modifies rolls for class participation, OWLs & NEWTs.
  • 3.14 Worst Hogwarts Subject Rule
    Worst Hogwarts Subject negatively modifies rolls for class participation, OWLs & NEWTs.
  • 3.15 Quidditch for First Years Rule
    First year students may not be on the house teams without approval from the Headmistress/Headmaster, Head of their House, or the Professor of flight.
  • 3.16 Quidditch Academics Rule
    Students who have been held back a year are NOT allowed to play on the house team during the repeat year.
  • 3.17 Quidditch Captain Rule
    Quidditch team captains must be fourth year or higher and are required to run try-outs for the house team and arrange a team roster as they see fit from those try-outs.
  • 3.18 Quidditch Co-Captain Rule
    Quidditch team co-captains must be second year and above.
  • 3.19 Quidditch Player Rule
    Quidditch team members are allowed to miss one game per site year without demotion.
  • 3.20 Quidditch Alternate Rule
    Quidditch team alternates MUST roll on the last day of a match if the team is still short any rolls.
  • 4.1 Adult Application Rule
    All members (even new members) may apply for an adult at any time unless otherwise specified by the site admin.
  • 4.2 Adult Owned Shops Rule
    A member MUST gain approval from the Minister of Magic before having their character take over an existing shop or creating a new shop in the alleys or Hogsmeade.
  • 4.3 Adult Content Rule
    Adult romance or violence MUST fade at any point where the scene is going to surpass the PG13 rated level of content. Romance between an adult and a minor is not allowed, questionable friendships may or may not be allowed depending on the situation.
  • 4.4 Adult Professions Rule
    The creation of Aurors, Ministry employees, or employees of the Daily Prophet requires prior approval BEFORE a character is played.
  • 4.5 Auror Requirements Rule
    All Aurors must complete training before they can play as full Aurors and other requirements must be met.
  • 4.6 Ministry Employee Requirement Rule
    Ministry employees must conduct themselves appropriately.
  • 4.7 Daily Prophet Employee Requirements Rule
    Employees of the Daily Prophet must conduct themselves appropriately and MUST have admin validated reasons for having access to certain stories.
  • 4.8 Hogwarts Staff & Professor Requirements Rule
    All Hogwarts staff are required to have at least one position oriented scene per year.
  • 4.9 Head of House Requirements Rule
    The Head of each House is assigned by the Headmistress/Headmaster and must conduct themselves appropriately..
  • 5.1 Code of Conduct Rule
    This site expects that all members (including staff) conduct themselves appropriately.
  • 5.2 Illegal Activities Rule
    Do not practice and/or advocate real life illegal activities through this site.
  • 5.3 Harassment Rule
    Do not harass or discriminate against other players.
  • 5.4 Impersonation Rule
    Do not impersonate staff or other players on this site.
  • 5.5 Rubber BANNED Rule
    Do not create additional accounts to get back on the site after having been banned.
  • 5.6 SPAM Rule
    Do not post advertisements for other sites or random promotions on this site.
  • 5.7 Post Edit Rule
    Do not drastically edit a post after a character has fully responded to the post.
  • 5.8 Respect Rule
    Show respect for every member even if the member has displayed disrespectful behavior.
  • 5.9 Drama & Trolling Rule
    Do not post inflammatory content, engage in fights out of character, or use your characters in a way to exact personal slights against another member or cause fights.
  • 5.10 Flouncing Rule
    Do not post possible farewells to the site or other such messages in attempts to get attention or sympathy. NO FLOUNCING!
  • 5.11 Power Player Rule
    Do not engage in god mode or power playing behavior.
  • 5.12 OOC/IC Rule
    DO NOT USE OUT OF CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE IN CHARACTER!
  • 6.1 Post Size Requirement Rule
    Each post that is not quidditch, dueling, or OOC must be at least three full sentences in length with minimal grammar or spelling errors.
  • 6.2 Post Title Rule
    Do not use the same forum title as a forum already in use and do not post in forums that are marked (Closed) or have names beside the title that are not your character’s.
  • 6.3 Post Multiple Rule
    Do not post repeatedly in any forum, even the Out of Character. Posting repeat consecutive posts in the chatter box (CB) is permitted but do not flood the CB.
  • 6.4 RP Format Rule
    In Role Play (RP) posts, use common English writing techniques. Do not use asterisks to indicate movement (*hugs*) and use quotations (“Hi.”) for speech.
  • 6.5 RP Posting Order Rule
    All members must observe a posting order when role playing.
  • 6.6 NPC Rule
    Do not NPC any cannon character (i.e. Draco Malfoy). Also do not NPC other member’s characters without permission from that member.
  • 6.7 Solo RP Rule
    Solo writing is encouraged; however, this type of role playing should only be done while actively playing with other members of the site and should not be done so much that solo RP is greater than the amount of RP had with other members.
  • 6.8 Dice & Quidditch Systems Rule
    For duels, fights, quidditch and other related situations, use of dice is required unless arranged otherwise among those involved.
  • 7.1 Avatar Reserve Rule
    All avatars must be refused BEFORE they are used by a member. Reserved avatars will be placed in the Avatar Reserve.
  • 7.2 Avatar Requirement Rule
    All members are required to have at least an avatar image in use at all times. Signature images are not required.
  • 7.3 Size Rule
    Avatars may be as large as 150x150, while the maximum size for a signature is a height of 200 and a width of 475. The maximum file size for each is 75 kb.
  • 7.4 Avatar Image & Signature Shops Rule
    New members may NOT request art from shops until they have been an active member of the site for a period of 7 days. Shop owners may not accept such requests.
  • 8.1 Spider/Bot Rule
    Spiders and Bots other than those approved by the site will result in immediate termination of the account.
  • 8.2 Data Log Rule
    All accounts/posts/members activities will be logged, monitored and stored into a database and/or a series of log files.
  • 8.3 Copyright Rule
    By joining this site you agree to be bound by United States copyright laws regarding stored works.
  • 8.4 Warranty Rule
    By joining this site you agree to be bound by United States copyright laws regarding stored works.
  • 9.1 Disciplinary Actions
    Members will have a first contact reminder, then be formally warned, then be banned for repeat behavior. The site reserves the right to ban any member at any time depending on the infraction without issue of reminder or warning.
  • 10.1 Disclaimer
